Animal Cruelty Task Force History

A Brief History

Sheriff Carmine Marceno established the Animal Cruelty Task Force in April 2020 to intervene for animals at risk from abuse or neglect.The Animal Cruelty Task Force treks thousands of miles a year, completing over 4,000 responses to reports of abuse or neglect involving nearly 4,000 animals.

Detectives work with owners to improve the treatment of their animals; however, some circumstances may require the animal’s removal for its wellbeing.The Animal Cruelty Task Force members aid in educating the public about proper standards of care for their animals. They also provide:

◦ Knowledgeable and expert testimony in legal cases.
◦ Legislative changes.
◦ Training workshops for law enforcement and local animal care and animal control workers.
